15. τοτε πορευθεντες οι φαρισαιοι συμβουλιον ελαβον οπως αυτον παγιδευσωσιν εν λογω Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in words. 16. και αποστελλουσιν αυτω τους μαθητας αυτων μετα των ηρωδιανων λεγοντες διδασκαλε οιδαμεν οτι αληθης ει και την οδον του θεου εν αληθεια διδασκεις και ου μελει σοι περι ουδενος ου γαρ βλεπεις εις προσωπον ανθρωπων And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God in truth, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you do not show partiality. [1] 17. ειπε ουν ημιν τι σοι δοκει εξεστιν δουναι κηνσον καισαρι η ου Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” 18. γνους δε ο ιησους την πονηριαν αυτων ειπεν τι με πειραζετε υποκριται But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Hypocrites! Why do you tempt me? 19. επιδειξατε μοι το νομισμα του κηνσου οι δε προσηνεγκαν αυτω δηναριον Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought a denarius to him. 20. και λεγει αυτοις τινος η εικων αυτη και η επιγραφη And he asked them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” 21. λεγουσιν αυτω καισαρος τοτε λεγει αυτοις αποδοτε ουν τα καισαρος καισαρι και τα του θεου τω θεω They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22. και ακουσαντες εθαυμασαν και αφεντες αυτον απηλθον[2] When they heard it, they marveled, and leaving him, they went away. [1] Greek: and you do not care about anyone, for you do not look to the face of men. [2] NA-Text reads “απηλθαν”, same verbal tense spelled differently. ---- Notes: 1.
