Matthew 10:16-25 - Revision of the Textus Receptus

The gospel according to Matthew

Chapter 10

“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues.

And you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious how or what you will speak, for it will be given you in that hour what you will speak.

For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

“Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

And when they persecute you in this city, flee to another, for truly I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man has come.

“A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord.

It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!

[1] NA-Text reads “παραδωσιν” (aorist instead of present).

[2] NA-Text reads “λαλησητε” (aorist instead of future).

[3] NA-Text reads “ετεραν” (“the next” instead of “another”).

[4] NA-Text, P-Text, WPF35 and M-Text read “βεελζεβουλ”: p110 א B C D L W Θ ƒ1 ƒ13 33 Byz Theophylact. TR: vg || Scrivener rightly states that the spelling found in the TR is a Latinism. Spelling corrected to conform to the Greek text.

[5] NA-Text, M-TextHP and WPF35 read “επεκαλεσαν” that can be translated as “surnamed” or “called”: B C Byzpt Theophylact | TR: Θ 0171 ƒ1 Byzpt 700 1424 || The reduction may have occurred by a parableptic error (επ-εκαλεσαν, thus missing “επ”). Greek text adjusted.

[6] M-Text and WPF35 read “οικειακους”, a spelling difference for the same word: C D M Byz | TR: א B E K L Γ Δ Theophylact. No need of correction.
