The gospel according to Mark
Chapter 16
ιακωβου και σαλωμη ηγορασαν αρωματα ινα ελθουσαι αλειψωσιν αυτον And when the Sabbath was past, Mary
Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they
might come and anoint him. |
σαββατων ερχονται επι το μνημειον ανατειλαντος του ηλιου And very early on the first day of the
week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. |
τις αποκυλισει ημιν τον λιθον εκ της θυρας του μνημειου And they were saying among themselves,
“Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” |
θεωρουσιν οτι αποκεκυλισται ο λιθος ην γαρ μεγας σφοδρα But when they looked up, they saw that
the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. |
λευκην και εξεθαμβηθησαν And entering the tomb, they saw a young
man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe. And they were alarmed. |
ωδε ιδε ο τοπος οπου εθηκαν αυτον And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed.
You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here.
See the place where they laid him! |
7. αλλ[3]
γαλιλαιαν εκει αυτον οψεσθε καθως ειπεν υμιν But go, tell his disciples and Peter
that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, as he said to
you. |
εφοβουντο γαρ And going out, they fled from the tomb. And trembling and astonishment came upon them. And they said nothing to
anyone for they were afraid. |
[1] M-Text omits “η του”. NA-Text reads “η [του]”. The TR is supported by
codices א2, A, B, K, Δ, minuscules 33,
part of the Byzantine manuscripts and Theophylact. The omission of “του” is supported by codices א*, C, W,
Γ, Θ, Ψ and minuscule 700.The full omission is supported by codices E, both
families of manuscripts ƒ1 and ƒ13, minuscules 28, 565,
892, 1010, 1241, 1424 and part of the Byzantine manuscripts. Mark used the very
same “μαρια η του ιακωβου” in 15:40, so that any omission in this clause is
most likely due to scribal errors.
[2] NA-Text reads “τη μια των” (dative instead of
genitive).
[3] NA-Text reads “αλλα”, uncontracted form of the same conjunction.
[4] NA-Text, Vg-St, PT, WPF35
and M-text omit “ταχυ” (immediately). This
omission is supported by codices א, B, D, Θ and Theophylact.
This adverb does not belong in the original text. It has been removed
accordingly.
[5] NA-Text and Vg-St read “γαρ” (“for” instead of “and”, Latin equivalent: “enim”),
which is supported by codices א, B and D. The TR is
supported by codex Θ, the Diatessaron, the Byzantine manuscripts and Theophylact. The
conjunction “for” was probably added to make the text flow better. The harder
reading “and” has been maintained in the text.
[6] NA-Text reads “ειπαν”, same verbal tense spelled differently.
