Mark 15:16-20 - Revision of the Textus Receptus

The gospel according to Mark

Chapter 15

And the soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium, and they called together the whole cohort.

And they clothed him with purple, twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on him.

And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

And they struck him on the head with a reed and spat on him, and bowing their knees, they worshipped him.

And when they had mocked him, they took the purple off him, and put his own garments on him. And they led him out to crucify him.

[1] NA-Text reads “ενδιδυσκουσιν”. Those verbs are interchangeable.

[2] M-Text reads “ο βασιλευς”. The TR is supported by codices א, B, D, Θ and Theophylact. No need of correction.

[3] NA-Text reads “αυτου” and renders “his garments”. What may possibly have happened here was a parableptic error (ιματια τα ιδια, thus missing “τα ιδια” – “own”) with a subsequent addition of “αυτου” – “his” from the parallel passage in Matthew 27:31. Codex D misses “τα ιδια” with no replacement which is an indication that this error tended to occur in early copies.
