Chapter 1
1. επειδηπερ πολλοι
επεχειρησαν αναταξασθαι διηγησιν περι των πεπληροφορημενων εν ημιν πραγματων Since many have undertaken to set in
order a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among
us, |
2. καθως παρεδοσαν ημιν οι
απ αρχης αυτοπται και υπηρεται γενομενοι του λογου even as they delivered them to us, who
from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, |
3. εδοξε[1] καμοι
παρηκολουθηκοτι ανωθεν πασιν ακριβως καθεξης σοι γραψαι κρατιστε θεοφιλε it seemed good to me also, having followed
all things accurately from the beginning, to write to you in order, most
excellent Theophilus; |
4. ινα επιγνως περι ων
κατηχηθης λογων την ασφαλειαν that you may know the certainty
concerning the things in which you were instructed. |
[1] NA-Text and P-Text read “εδοξε”, same verbal tense spelled differently, which is supported by codices א, B, D and Theophylact. The TR is supported by codices A, E, F, K, S, Θ, Λ, Ω, family of manuscripts ƒ1, minuscules 2, 565, 1424 and the Byzantine manuscripts. The contracted form has been adopted in the Greek text.
