Chapter 6
12. εγενετο δε εν ταις
ημεραις ταυταις εξελθειν αυτον[1] εις
το ορος προσευξασθαι και ην διανυκτερευων εν τη προσευχη του θεου And it happened in those days that he
went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to
God. |
13. και οτε εγενετο ημερα
προσεφωνησεν τους μαθητας αυτου και εκλεξαμενος απ αυτων δωδεκα ους και
αποστολους ωνομασεν And when it was day, he called his
disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: |
14. σιμωνα ον και ωνομασεν
πετρον και ανδρεαν τον αδελφον αυτου [2] ιακωβον
και ιωαννην [3]
φιλιππον και βαρθολομαιον Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; |
15. [4] ματθαιον[5] και
θωμαν [6] ιακωβον
τον του[7]
αλφαιου και σιμωνα τον καλουμενον ζηλωτην Matthew and Thomas; James the son of
Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot; |
16. [8] ιουδαν
ιακωβου και ιουδαν ισκαριωτην[9] ος
και εγενετο προδοτης Judas the son of James; and Judas
Iscariot, who also[10]
became a traitor. |
17. και καταβας μετ αυτων
εστη επι τοπου πεδινου και οχλος [11] μαθητων
αυτου και πληθος πολυ του λαου απο πασης της ιουδαιας και ιερουσαλημ και της
παραλιου τυρου και σιδωνος οι ηλθον ακουσαι αυτου και ιαθηναι απο των νοσων
αυτων And coming down with them, he stood on
a level place. And a crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people
from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to
hear him and to be healed of their diseases, |
18. και οι οχλουμενοι[12] απο[13]
πνευματων ακαθαρτων [14]
εθεραπευοντο as well as those who were troubled with
unclean spirits were healed. |
19. και πας ο οχλος εζητει[15]
απτεσθαι αυτου οτι δυναμις παρ αυτου εξηρχετο και ιατο παντας And all the multitude sought to touch
him, for power came out of him and healed them all. |
[1] NA-Text reads “εξελθειν αυτον” (infinitive instead of indicative), which is supported by codices א, A, B and D. Codex Θ reads (εξηλθεν αυτο). The TR is supported by the Byzantine manuscripts and Theophylact. The support for the Alexandrian reading is better and has been adopted in the Greek text.
[2] NA-Text adds “και” (and).
[3] NA-Text adds “και” (and).
[4] NA-Text adds “και” (and).
[5] NA-Text reads “μαθθαιον”.
[6] NA-Text adds “και” (and).
[7] NA-Text omits “τον του”, which is probably a harmonization to the
genitival construction found in verse 16.
[8] NA-Text adds “και” (and).
[9] NA-Text reads “ισκαριωθ” on a weak support of a few
manuscripts of Alexandrian type.
[10] NA-Text and Vg-St omit
“also”, which is supported by codices א and B. The inclusion is supported by
codices D, Θ
and Theophylact. Even though the parallel passage in Mark 3:19 includes it, the
wording is different, which is not a typical sign of harmonization between
parallel passages.
[11] NA-Text adds “πολυς” and renders “a great crowd of his disciples”.
[12] NA-Text reads “ενοχλουμενοι”. Those two verbs can be used interchangeably.
[13] NA-Text, PT and Vg-St read
“απο” (Latin equivalent: “ab”), which is
supported by codices א, B, D, Θ and part of the Byzantine manuscripts. The TR is supported by part of the
byzantine manuscripts and Theophylact. The Greek text has been adjusted
following the NA-Text.
[14] NA-Text and Vg-St omit “και” and render “and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were healed”, which is supported by codices א, A, B, D and the Diatessaron. The inclusion is supported by codex Θ, the Byzantine manuscripts and Theophylact. The support for the omission is earlier and more widespread, so it has been adopted in the text.
[15] NA-Text reads “εζητουν”. Same verbal tense spelled differently.
